The aim of the Preparatory Phase is to ensure that the EISCAT_3D project will reach a sufficient level of maturity with respect to technical, legal and financial issues so that the construction of the EISCAT_3D radar system can begin immediately after the conclusion of the phase.

The Preparatory Phase will continue until September 2014, and is continuing from the conclusions found in the Design Study that was concluded in 2009.

The EISCAT_3D Preparatory Phase is funded by the European Commission under the call FP7-INFRASTRUCTURES-2010-1 “Construction of new infrastructures: providing catalytic and leveraging support for the construction of new research infrastructures”.
